Lovely little bakery! The owner makes all the bread by hand every morning, and you can really taste the difference — so much better than supermarket bread. There are only a few types, but each one is top quality. The owner is super friendly, and it feels like most people who come here are happy regulars.

This baker is the real deal! Sourdough breads/rolls/brioche made freshly by him every day right there in his bakery. His pastries are insanely good too. You’re best to order in advance for larger orders. He’s a great communicator so all made easy. Only thing is that I never make it back home with the full order - get extra for the journey home too!

We visited this place this morning. The owner is super friendly! He explained us that all his bread is sourdough and you can proof all the passion and love in it. He is also English speaker which makes communication easier.

Jose is not only a great baker, but also great to talk with. He clearly enjoys his work and you can sense that joy when you eat the bread he makes. We also like to get the pizza (sadly only available Saturdays). But my favorite is the focaccia -- I once picked it up just after it was baked. It is heavenly!
Delicious bakery, with sourdough breads 🍞 Service is excellent and this is my favourite bakery in the Algarve.

The bread and pastries are divine and on top of that José is a very sympathetic and dedicated young man. Well worth a visit and you better reserve or be there early, otherwise you will miss out

WOW! This guy is the real deal. Super friendly and welcoming when you enter his cozy shop. But the aroma of fresh baked bread still in the air was enough to convince me.
We got brioche buns, classic loaf bread, a big chunk of focaccia and a couple of his amazing Pain au Chocolat (maybe the best I've had, and I've been to France a couple times!)
The focaccia is also delicious. The bread and buns are for dinner tonight, so I can only report on what we devoured as soon as we got home...lol. In short: very good knowledge of his craft, and the passion to execute beautifully. Thanks, Jose... we'll be back soon (and often)This bakery sells fantastic sourdough products. It a small owner-led business and I am very happy to support him. José I’d friendly and chatty and it’s impossible not to want to help him along. Not open on Sundays and Mondays, but not problem with a little planning.
Authentic sourdough bread and truly passionate and friendly staff. I went there by recommendation and it surpassed all expectations. I can vouch for the pain au chocolate, which was delicious and reminded me of France, and their classic bread, not dense but rich, which is hard to find in the Algarve. A hidden gem in the Algarve and a bakery to visit more frequently.

The best bread and pastries in the Algarve! Whenever we pass by Loulé we have to call in here and stock up on bread. It’s not easy to find good bread in the Algarve (especially when you’re used to French bread) so we were so happy when Jose told us he was opening Essencia!!

Opened Feb 2023. Passionate artisan baker. All portugese traditionally milled wheat. All sourdough of course. Great pain au chocolate. Plans to serve coffee soon. Two bread variants traditional wheat with seeds option. Hope he adds a rye variant in future but that may not be traditional. I'll be back!
